Purpose

In accordance with the provisions of Regulation (EU) 2016/679, of 27 April 2016, on the protection of natural persons with regard to the processing of personal data (GDPR), this policy aims to provide you with the information set forth in Articles 13 and 14 of the aforementioned Regulation, and any other deemed necessary on how we collect and how we use your personal data.

Who is the data controller?

The data controller of your personal data is the Meteorological Service of Catalonia (SMC), a public company of the Government of Catalonia under the auspices of the Ministry of Territory and Sustainability, with:

For what purpose do we process your personal data?

  • In the public interest, to:
    • Exercise the powers of the SMC in accordance with the current regulations.
    • Respond to your queries, requests, suggestions, error notifications and complaints.
    • Guarantee your security when accessing our facilities.
    • Improve the services we offer you.
  • Based on your consent, to:
    • Facilitate the personalized use of our web applications and services, provided that you have registered for this purpose.
    • Promote and inform you of the activities we carry out, products and other aspects related to the services we offer, through emails, the website, social media and other mechanisms.
  • By contractual (or pre-contractual) relationship, to:
    • Process your job applications and CVs.
    • Manage public procurement procedures and fulfil the obligations derived from the contracts that you have entered into with us.
  • For legal reasons, to:
    • Respond to your requests for public information.
    • Manage public procurement procedures and comply with the obligations derived from public sector procurement legislation (fiscal, tax, etc.).

How do we collect your personal data and what data do we collect?

Information that you provide us through website forms

The website forms through which we collect your personal data include:

  • Contact email boxes.
  • Registration for events organized by the SMC.
  • Request for public information (transparency).
  • User registration, to download information and/or use certain services.

In these cases, the basic information on data protection is displayed at the moment the data is collected, especially its purpose.

In general, the personal data that you provide us through these forms includes:

  • Email address.
  • Name and surnames.
  • Postal address.

Information that you provide us by email, telephone, social media and other communication channels

In these cases, the information we collect is that which you provide us with proactively and voluntarily, and we only use it to manage your queries, requests, suggestions, complaints, etc. Some of this data may reside on third-party servers (Twitter, Facebook, etc.).

However, the software applications used in the programming of the website are the property of METEOCAT or its software providers and are protected by national laws and international treaties and conventions on the matter. In this respect, METEOCAT uses YouTube?s API Services in accordance with its API Client Terms of Service (you can consult them at this link: https://www.youtube.com/t/terms. Information we collect from your visits to our sites

This web portal uses cookies, text files located on the user's computer, to help the website analyse the use made of it by users, for the correct operation and display of the published content, as well as for gathering statistical information.

For gathering statistical information we use Google Analytics. The information generated by the cookies (including the IP address) is directly transmitted and stored by Google on the website's servers. To prevent this collection of the IP address, METEOCAT has activated the option "Anonymize IP" which is incorporated into the system itself and which masks the last three digits of the IP address to anonymize it by setting them to 0.

We use this information to improve access to the content and services we offer you, and to monitor performance.

We obtain this information through the cookies that are saved in your browsers and the logs that are saved on our web servers.

If, however, you wish to disable the cookies that collect the information, you can reject their use by selecting the appropriate settings on your browser. However, you should know that if you do so, you may not be able to use all the functionalities of this website. By using the website, you consent to the processing of your data in the manner and for the purposes indicated above.

How long will we store your data?

We only store personal information to the extent that we need it, in order to be able to use it for the purpose for which it was collected, and according to the legal basis of the processing and in accordance with applicable legislation.

We will store your personal information as long as you are registered as users of our services, as long as there is a contractual and/or commercial relationship, or as long as you do not exercise your right to erasure and/or to the restriction of processing of your data (for more information, see the section about your rights). In these cases, we will store the information duly blocked, without making use of it, for as long as necessary for the exercise or defence of legal claims, or to respond to any type of judicial, legal or contractual liability that may arise and for which the data must be recovered.

Who may we communicate your data to?

Most of the data we collect resides on our servers, but in some cases it is necessary to communicate the information you have provided us to third parties in order to provide the requested service.

There are also companies that provide us with other types of services, who will act Data Processors and with whom we have signed the corresponding contract that includes the obligations and responsibilities established by current legislation on personal data protection.

How do we protect your data?

As long as it is under our control, we will do everything possible to ensure that your personal data is processed in a way that guarantees the security required to prevent unauthorized or illegal use, accidental loss, destruction or damage.

To this end, we use the appropriate technical and organizational measures, which are periodically reviewed. We protect your personal information through the use of a combination of physical, digital and logical security controls, including access controls that restrict and manage the way your personal data is processed, administered and managed. We also ensure that our workers are properly trained in personal data protection.

We have established procedures to manage and notify you of any suspicious incident that may arise related to personal data, as well as any regulation applicable to the incident that we are legally obliged to comply with.

What are your data protection rights and how can they be exercised?

  • Withdrawal of consent: When we are using personal information based on your consent, you have the right to withdraw it at any time.
  • Right to be informed: You have the right to be informed about the use of your personal information. This policy, and the summarized legal texts that we use in our communications and forms, are intended to provide a clear and transparent description of this.
  • Right of access: You can ask us what information we have about you and/or ask us for a copy of it.
  • Right to erasure: You can request the deletion of data that personally identifies you. There may be times when we are unable to comply with this request for legal reasons, for which you will be notified. In some cases, we will suggest unsubscribing from future communications rather than deleting the data.
  • Right to rectification: If your data is incorrect in our databases, you have the right to ask us to update it.
  • Right to restriction of processing: In certain situations, you have the right to ask us to restrict our processing of your data, if you believe it is inaccurate or the processing is unlawful. This involves the marking of stored personal data with the aim of restricting its processing in the future.
  • Right to data portability: When we are using your personal information with your consent, the law allows you to ask us to transfer your data to another service provider. In this case, we will transmit your personal data (to you or a third party that you have indicated to us) in a structured, commonly used and machine-readable format, provided it is technically feasible.
  • Right to object and automated individual decision-making: You have the right to object to the processing of your personal data, provided none of the exceptions provided in the GDPR apply. You have the right to object at any time, on grounds relating to your particular situation. In this case, we will no longer process your personal data.
